I am delighted to be in the privileged position of President of the Edinburgh Bowling League for the 2010 season.

I am following in the footsteps of a fine band of men, but in particular our Past President, Alister Paterson, who has helped me considerably to get ready for this year.  I hope I meet your expectations!

I would also like to take this opportunity in welcoming Ardmillan Bowling Club as a new member to our League.  I hope they will enjoy our company as much as we look forward to enjoying theirs.

I would also like to congratulate and welcome on to our Committee, our two new members, John Newall (Hillside) and Robert Donaldson (Parkside).  They have already shown they will be a great asset to our Committee and we all look forward to working with them.

The strength of our League would not be possible without our Sponsors.  To Alan Hartman of Alpha Trophies, Specsavers and Ian Mackay (Contracts) – a huge thanks for your continued support.

As you all know we collect for charity during the year and our fund-raising charity day will be held again at Willowbrae Bowling Club on Saturday 29th May 2010.  Please put the date in your diaries.  Many thanks once again to Willowbrae for volunteering to be our hosts – and a Happy Birthday to them – 100 years young this year.

My charity will be called “Top’n’Tail” representing the Breast Cancer Institute, Western General, Edinburgh and the Prostate Cancer Support Group, a voluntary organisation who work out of the Maggie’s Centre.  To supplement the coffers, myself, VP John Cossar and Brian Higgins are attempting to play one end on all 38 greens of the League in early August.  More information at a later date.

Finally, a huge thanks to Bill Ramsay, Secretary and Alaistair Wilkie, Treasurer, for doing a grand job and thanks to my Committee for their support.  Also to John Dickson for the brilliant job he does with our web-page.  Please visit this as often as possible.

Have a good season.

Roddy Watson, President 2010.
